Hello and thanks for checking this out! My name is Katie Ferguson and I have decided to run the Flying Pig half marathon in May. Sounds great, doesn't it? But, that is not where it ends. Running is not an easy task for me and I do not get motivated very easily to just go run. So, I decided to take on the challenge for a bigger cause...Active:water. Active:water is an organization that uses athletes to raise money for clean water all around the world.
Most of the world drinks water from the same rivers or streams that animals use the bathroom in. Because, this is forced to be their drinking water, these people face many diseases and deaths everyday. To add to that, most of the time, it is the women and young girls who have to get the water, which is usually 5-6 miles away, and then carry all the way back to their homes. Most of the time, the water they carry weighs about 30-40 pounds. That may not sound like much to you, but in the beginning of January, I got the chance to experience what it is like to carry 40 pounds of water just for 1/8th of a mile, and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.
Here is where I ask you to join me in this movement. I believe that we are called to help the suffering by not just talking about it, but taking action. This is a chance for you to take action! I am making a goal to raise $500. It would be amazing to see that goal go above and beyond! It only takes $25 to provide one African clean water. The money that you donate goes to giving clean water to those in need. Thank you in advance for your kind and giving heart.
