Hello Everyone. :) I'm Jackie Gerhart and I'm 16 years old. I'm going to be training for a marathon and running a half marathon for Active:Water. Active Water is an organization that helps provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene to other countries that aren't as fortunate as the United States. The focus country for 2009 is Zambia.
I couldn't tell you the exact reason why God put Active:Water on my heart, but I can take a few guesses. I am a young girl, and while I am at school, learning, young girls in other countries (Zambia) are getting water for their familes. Most of the time that water is about 4-6 miles from their home, they walk there and then carry about 30-40 lbs. of water back.. and usually one trip is not enough. When the day is finally done and they're done getting the water for their families the water is likely to have water-borne illnesses that can kill their family members. Water borne illnesses are the leading cause of natural deaths in the world! Thats more than cancer, car accidents, guns, and war.
I want to help. I want to help get clean water to those Zambia, but I need your help. Whether you help through prayers or finances, Active:Water and I are VERY thankful for it! :)
