Okay...so here's the thing...I hate running...always have. I'm not really an athlete...I like to hide behind my books and laptop. But I always thought it would be cool to be determined enough to be one. And to be totally honest, I'm tired of huffing and puffing in disgust at all of the fit runners that are out tredding through several inches of Michigan snow, as I sit in my driver's seat with 90 degree air and a heated seat warming my butt.
But what I really despise is the concept of thirst and injustice. And if I can do anything to help families in Zambia have a better life, a life that doesn't involve them drinking water unsuitable for my dog, and to have a life where 6 hours can be spent doing something pleasurable and purposeful like school, a trade, or time spent with their family rather than hauling filthy water from a pond 5 miles away from home...then I'll do it.
So here goes...I am training for a 5k (3.1 mile run) for August 8th at the Blueberry Festival in South Haven. I have 4 weeks to go from couch potato to avid runner. After I succeed with my first 5K, I intend to run another 5K on October 3rd in Portage as well as train for a half marathon for May 2010. Please help me not be doing it in vain.
Consider giving towards this clean water project. Because remember....This isn't just about dignity, it's about saving lives. |
