Swimming, Biking and Running for a Cure
On December 4, 2006 I got an email from Professor Gey that read, in part, "Last Thursday I was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). There’s no way to sugarcoat this: The doctors' blunt prognosis is total paralysis within one year and death within three." It was soon after receiving this that the first Tri-For-Gey team came to life. Tri-For-Gey-I included over 40 participants, and Tri-For-Gey-II was just under 70 and, together, we have raised over $100,000 to help find a cure. As you know, when we finished the Tri-For-Gey-II, things were not looking good for Professor Gey. His weight was barely over 90 pounds and he was unable to attend any of the Tri-For-Gey events. We thought then that it would be our last ever Tri-For-Gey. Then, in November, the folks over at Red Hills opened registration and we have to make a decision. What to do? After giving it much thought - and after speaking with Professor Gey this afternoon - I'm reminded that the deal was, and always has been, as long as Professor Gey keeps fighting, we keep fighting! The doctor said total paralysis within one year -- well, so much for that. Every day Professor Gey wakes up and battles the worst disease we've ever known. We can wake up again and take on Red Hills. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT in our continued efforts to STOP ALS!
