| Have you heard of lupus? Do you know someone with lupus? 1 out of every 185 people in the United States has lupus. You DO know someone with lupus. There has never been a drug specifically developed for lupus and only 3 are approved by the FDA to specifically treat people with lupus. But not many people have even heard of this life threatening disease that affects mostly women (9 out of 10 people affected are women), minorities (mostly Blacks and Hispanics) in the child bearing years.
Our goals as a local foundation are:
1) Make the community more aware of the disease and in so doing
2) Make the medical community more aware of the disease Lupus so that people are diagnosed more quickly and therefore treated more quickly. 3) Make the researchers understand the necessity of a drug specifically for people with Lupus and ultimately to find a cure!
To do this, we have monthly support groups around the community, free quarterly seminars on various topics that people with lupus would be interested in and a quarterly newsletter with what is going on in research and what the foundation is doing for our members. LFSC sends out brochures to interested parties.
