| Dear Friends & Family -
Many of you know that four years ago I was shamed into doing a triathlon by a bunch of girlfriends…it was from this moment that I was hooked on triathlons. Year after year I have subjected myself to this challenging sport as a way to keep me in shape. Every year I think to myself, what’s my goal for this year? The first year it was to just finish, the next was to beat my time, and then it became clear to me that I wanted to do it for more than just myself. On Sunday, May 17, 2009, I will be doing the Columbia Triathlon and on Sunday, August 23, 2009, I will be doing the Iron Girl Triathlon for a reason much more important that the personal challenge of completing a triathlon. I have pledged to train on behalf of young adults living with cancer through the Ulman Cancer Foundation (UCF). My participation will help raise money to accelerate funding for support programs and educational resources for young adults affected by cancer. From the moment I became familiar with the UCF I have been captivated by the cause. I would like to share with you why…
Approximately 65,000 young adults in their 20’s and 30’s are diagnosed with cancer every year. Cancer remains the leading disease killer among 20-39 year olds. Young adults going through cancer treatment still have an inadequate amount of support on every front: medical, psychological, and financial.
For over 10 years, as a result of generous contributions made by companies, foundations and individuals, UCF has been able to carry out its mission to provide support programs, education and resources, free of charge, to benefit young adults, their family and friends, who are affected by cancer, and to promote awareness and prevention of cancer.
My goal is to raise $2,500 by May 1, 2009. My hope is that you will consider making a 100% tax-deductible donation in support of my efforts. With the generosity of people like you, young adults with cancer will no longer be underserved!! (And I will be forced to complete these triathlons!)
