As you may know, I originally planned to run my first marathon at the Flying Pig in May. Sadly, a nagging injury decided that wasn't going to happen. After a few months of cross-training (and no running!) and physical therapy, I was cleared to start training again. With my PT's blessing, I signed up for the US Air Force Marathon in Dayton on 9/17/11, and I'm taking the opportunity to run for a great cause!
Once again, I'm running for Girls on the Run to help local 3-8th grade girls get introduced not only to running, but to self-esteem, teamwork, good physical and mental health, and the power of achieving personal goals.
The 12-week program costs $150 per girl, including brand-new running shoes and other goodies, but no participant is turned away due to finances. Many of the girls' families pay whatever they can afford. The program relies largely on donations to cover the rest of the costs. All the money I raise will go directly to Girls on the Run of Greater Cincinnati.
For $20.00, you can buy a mile of my race! What this means: I will dedicate one mile to you. I can't slack off or quit during your mile. And, to make it even more fun, I'll let you assign me a random task to accomplish during your mile. I'll cheer, high-five someone, sing, listen to a certain song....I have some creative friends, so take advantage of your imagination and my somewhat limited capacity for embarrassment!
I reserve the right to deny any requests that do not meet a few specifications:
*I will not do ANYTHING that could be a danger to myself, other runners, or spectators. Period.
*It must be physically and logistically possible for me to do. (i.e., I will not run your mile in 5 minutes. ;)) I plan to have my cell phone with me and I have the capacity to carry some small objects.
*No significant alterations to pace or food/liquid intake.
*Nothing that could get me arrested or disqualified!
Please consider giving what you can to this great cause and/or buying a mile of my race. Specify in the comments that you want to buy a mile (you can specify 1-26 or I'll pick for you), and what you want me to do with it - or you can think about it and get back to me later! I'll keep my page updated with who bought each mile and what, if anything, they've chosen for me to do!!

Girls on the Run is an innovative health education and wellness program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk event with life-changing, self esteem enhancing lessons that encourage healthy habits and an active lifestyle for third through eighth grade girls. SoleMates is the adult charity running program of Girls on the Run.
