| "Champions" are key to the success of the 2008 "TRI-TO-WIN" SavageMan Triathlon Festival. The fundraising campaign truly makes an incredible impact…on our collective efforts to TRI-TO-WIN...the fight against melanoma!
"Champion" fundraising individuals can be included in the raffle for the exclusive Railey Mountain Lakes Vacation Weekend Home for a future Deep Creek Lake visit, premium awards and additional benefits. Creating your own fundraising page alone or, as an individual club member fundraising under your club name in the Club Competition – is very easy to do and incredibly rewarding. Simply go to the top of this page and click on "Become a Fundraiser." If you are not a club member: next select: "Fundraise as an Individual," and continue to create your personal fundraising page. If you are a club member: next use the "Join a Fundraising Team - Select a Team" drop down menu and click on your club name - then click on "Join this Fundraising Team" and continue to create your own personal fundraising page. Note: Setting up a personal club fundraising page is important, after you join your fundraising team to track the donations you receive.
If your club/team name is not listed: contact your club president or appropriate club rep, who must first create a Fundraising Team by clicking on "Become a Fundraiser" and next on "Create a Fundraising Team" - follow the instructions to insert the club name in both the Title and Web Address spaces and continue to customize as you'd like or copy text re: the Foundation's cause from below.

* Melanoma is the most serious and lethal form of skin cancer. * The lifetime risk of developing melanoma is
1 in 39. * Melanoma is the only cancer for which incidence and mortality are rising unabated, yet only receives 10% of the funding provided to other cancer research. * 1.2 million new cases of skin cancer occurred in the U.S. in 2006-more than all other new cases of breast, lung, colon and prostate combined. * During the past 10 years, the number of cases of melanoma has increased more rapidly than that of any other cancer. * 10,000 people in the U.S. died in 2006 from skin cancer of which 8,000 were melanoma.. * One person dies every hour in the U.S. from melanoma. * The incidence rate in Maryland alone increased over 300% in the past two decades.
The “TRI-TO-WIN…the fight against melanoma” triathlon fundraising directly benefits the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. The Foundation, an all-volunteer, non-profit charity, is known throughout Maryland and nationally as "the voice for melanoma prevention, detection, care and cure." Triathletes, experienced and first-timers alike, join the community of patients, families, doctors, educators and concerned individuals to:
• support medical research that will ultimately lead to a cure for melanoma;
• seek opportunities to educate the general public on prevention and the seriousness of melanoma; and,
• provide resources for patients and the entire melanoma community.
