| 2008 HEROES Campaign for American Red Cross of Northwest Florida
Be a Red Cross Hero!
Though chartered by Congress to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, the American Red Cross is not funded as a government agency. Every year, the residents of Santa Rosa County rely on their local Red Cross for emergency assistance when affected by house fires, chemical spills, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and other disasters. In turn we must rely on the generosity, compassion and trust of our community to help us fulfill our mission. The HEROES campaign is a grass-roots volunteer-led, community based event that helps raise critical funds for LOCAL Santa Rosa County Services.
Home Fires
A fire is one of the most devastating tragedies that anyone can experience and unfortunately it happens more often that you might think. Last year your local chapter volunteers responded to nearly 365 disasters in our community. We provided emergency food, lodging, clothing, prescription drugs, eye glasses and other important necessities to affected individuals.
Services to Armed Forces
Red Cross serves as a direct communication link between members of the Armed Forces and their loved ones back home. Red Cross has a worldwide network that reaches deployed troops wherever they may be stationed.
Disaster Services
During a large-scale disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, chemical spill or mass fire, the American Red Cross of Northwest Florida must staff 15 shelters. The chapter must continually train volunteers and staff to be on the front lines to manage and care for evacuees.
