| Three and a half years ago, I started on a journey that would take me somewhere I never thought I would go. I was not a runner but had a desire to get into shape and learn to take better care of myself. In January of 2010, I took what would be a 2nd attempt at a "Lynchburg Biggest Loser" group. I was going to set some goals and achieve them. There was a hefty prize involved for the winner. Through running, eating right and consistent exercise, I found myself becoming more confident in the way I looked, the way I felt and so on. I held my head higher and was proud of who I had become. While I wanted that prize at the end of our competition, my bigger prize was all that I had accomplished. As of this year, I can say that I have run just about every distance of a race that you can do. I Corinthians 9:24 says this, "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it." While I can't compete with a lot of other runners out there, my prize is what I achieve on a daily basis. The push to do better, to be a more positive person each and every day!
On November 12, 2011 I will run in the Suntrust Marathon in Richmond, VA. I am running to help raise money for the GOTR of Greater Lynchburg. I have seen the difference this program makes in the lives of girls in the 3rd - 5th grade and look at this as opportunity to give a young lady the chance to earn HER PRIZE. The prize of being proud of who she is no matter what! |
