| 8th Annual Run-as-One |
|
The 8th Annual Run-as-One road race and health walk will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in New York City's Central Park. This highly anticipated event is a wonderful opportunity to participate in one of the most popular running events in NYC while simultaneously raising critical funds for lung cancer research.
Since our first run/walk event in 2003, the TGL Classic Run-as-One has become a staple of the New York Road Runners schedule. Repeat runners and new participants have increased our reach to more than 8,000 people in New York City alone as we continue the fight against lung cancer, which remains the #1 cancer killer in the United States!
Know the Facts:
• Each year more people will die from lung cancer than from breast, prostate, ovarian, and colorectal cancers combined.
• Although lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer, roughly $1,800 is currently spent on research for each lung cancer death, compared to around $23,000 per breast cancer death.
• More than 60% of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer have either never smoked or have quit smoking.
• Over half of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at a very late stage—Stage IIIb or IV. Only 5 percent of those diagnosed will live for five years!
With your support, we can develop simple imaging and blood tests that can be used for the earliest detection of this otherwise lethal cancer that affects all of us - smokers, non-smokers and former smokers alike. Please join us on April 11 as we continue to raise awareness and research funds. |
