On 12 October 2011, I will join 65 other cyclists to help raise funds to assist the recovery of injured US Marines by riding 430 miles from Scottsdale, Arizona to the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD) in San Diego, California in the 2011 Ride for Semper Fi. By making a pledge on my behalf, you are directly supporting our wounded heroes and their families.
What do I get for my donation: Less than a year ago, I purchased my first road bike as I was leaving for Keesler Air Force Base. I logged several hundred miles in the Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana summer heat. Shortly after returning home, I met John, the founder of The Ride for Semper Fi. The moment he asked me to join this elite group of cyclists, I made my commitment to help our wounded heroes. My commitment consists of a new bike, safety equipment and a heap of new toys and cool gadgets. But it’s the early morning training rides that kick off as early as 3am and will exceed 100miles per day throughout the Arizona summer that show my dedication to this cause. Then in October, you will see how we depart Scottsdale, through the Arizona desert in triple digit temperatures. Through the California Sand Dunes and ascend from sea level to more than 6,000 feet and back down to the Pacific coast in 3 ½ days.
Why is a Sergeant in the US Air Force riding for US Marines: We all have a personal stake in this particular event. We have family, friends and neighbors of our community that have either served or are currently serving as a US Marine. Some may have even suffered a traumatic injury during the course of their duties. Some with visible injuries. Many with injuries we can’t see. And for the families, they are left to hold the households together. They dedicate their daily lives to holding these wounded heroes up. But it’s the things our fundraiser provides that can make a day better for many of the heroes and their families.
My goal is to raise at least $7,500 this year. Please help me reach that goal with your pledge. Your donation is tax deductible. If you wish, you may make a donation from this site or you may provide a cash or check donation and I will submit your donation on your behalf and in turn, provide you with the receipt and your name on the donation page
