| The Ride for Semper Fi 2010 is fast approaching and I am both extremely excited and a bit apprehensive. We are riding from Phoenix to San Diego (430 miles) Oct. 13 - 17th. This is such a small way for me to give back and thank the Marine's that have given a part of their life and in some cases, their lives, to allow us the freedom that we have in the US. This ride is also my way of honoring my brother Hugh. Hugh was in the infantry in Vietnam and was wounded and airlifted to Japan, where surgery was performed. He was then airlifted to the US for yet another surgery and to continue his recovery. While he was in the hospital he was all alone, as our family didn't have the money to travel to be there while he healed, nor was it encouraged. Hugh was there for over a month, alone. Today, with the Fund for Injured Marine's, my family would have had financial assistance to travel to be with my brother, help with living expenses while there and once he recovered it would help him with retraining and education. In today's world if a soldier is injured in year two of his service, the soldier only receives two years of education credits. The fund for Injured Marine's allows the soldier to become independent and regain a sense of accomplishment. With the recent surge of military into Afghanistan the number of deaths in the first few months has roughly doubled in comparison to all of 2009. The number of injured soldiers has tripled. The Fund for Injured Marine's allows the families to be with their loved one's and to focus on their recovery. All expenses for the ride are covered by each rider or corporate sponsorship.
