“Per capita, The Bahamas has the worst statistics for Breast Cancer on the planet !”
Clinical studies have revealed alarming statistics on breast cancer in The Bahamas: 48% of women diagnosed are under the age of 50. Forty four percent present with Stage 3 or Stage 4 of the disease, making their chance of cure low. Among women who die, 43% are under 50 years old at the time of their death.
Because of this anomaly unique to The Bahamas, the BRCA1 gene was discovered within our island populations (particularly affected in Eleuthera) however, this discovery is now proving vital for research into the mutations that may help globally. Every single dollar raised @ R4H is donated to cancer caring centers and cancer treatment programs.
