| Hello Friends -
Today, Autism is more prevalent than childhood cancer, Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes combined. Autism is the fastest growing and most common childhood disorder today, with 1 in 166 children diagnosed with Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder. And the incidence of diagnosis has been doubling every 4.5 years.
Autism affects children of all races and economic levels, affecting boys 4 times more frequently than girls. Every 20 minutes, a family is receiving the devastating news - their toddler has autism.
I am fundraising and racing again for the second year in the San Diego Race for Autism to fight the nation’s leading cause of childhood development disability.
Many people who are participating in this race have an emotional reason for doing so - perhaps they have an autistic child, in some cases, autistic children in their family. This isn't the case for me. However, I personalize my journey by remembering the children who have touched my life and the parents who have shared their pain of raising their children without the support and proper treatments available, and this has helped me feel more connected to my efforts. The first annual Austim Race last year was a huge success, with over 1,000 registered runners raising more than $75,000 for autism research. Over 500 autistic children and their families in San Diego will directly benefit from these funds over the next year. This experience was very rewarding to see our community work together to support the children of our future. Please help by donating online or by check in honor and support of the race. Donations are tax-deductible. ***Check payable to National Foundation of Autism Research (NFAR)*** Donation Receipts will be provided in April. Again, thank you for your support and friendship from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.
