| Hi Everyone,
I've committed to the crazy task of running 26.2 miles this fall in the Chicago Marathon. This will be my first marathon, and for those of you that know me, I've never been any sort of long distance runner. In addition to the obvious physical challenge, I'm determined to raise as much money as possible for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength in Illinois and will be running as part of the PinkStreak Team in the Marathon.
The mission of the Breast Cancer Network of Strength is to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. In 2008, approximately 182,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among American Women. With all of these new cases of breast cancer comes a huge need for support, and Network of Strength does just this.
Network of Strength provides services free of charge to all those facing breast cancer. Some of these services include support groups, educational programming, a wig and prosthesis bank, and a state-wide grassroots advocacy program that works to secure government funding of research.
My inspiration comes from the Mother of a good friend of mine who battled breast cancer to the end. She was truly inspirational in how she handled the disease and I’m sure the support and family she had around her throughout the struggle helped ease much of the pain. I want to do what I can to help women like her and their families cope with cancer.
I am asking you to help in this journey. I am required to raise a minimum of $850 as part of this team, but my personal goal is to raise $5000 for this cause. I know I can do this with your help. I will be facing a tough summer of early morning runs and sore muscles, but I know that is nothing compared to the challenge cancer patients face every day. I am committed to showing my support and making a difference, and I appreciate your participation in my endeavors.
Thank You,
Scott Floy
Thank you to everyone who donated! The marathon was a big success. It was extremely tough, but I survived. I hope everyone continues to support breast cancer patients and the research that goes into finding a cure. Thanks again! |
