| Running the Chicago Marathon has always been something that I have wanted to do. If you know me well enough, you know I am always up for a challenge when it comes to athletics, and what a better challenge than running 26.2 miles!?!?!? At first I was just determined to run the race, but then I realized I could run for an amazing cause. That's when I chose to run as a member of The Pink Streak Team raising money for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength Illinois.
I had chosen to run for my aunt Yvonne who passed away from breast cancer 10 years ago and also my great aunt Cheryl who is a survivor. But in the past two months there are two more people that I need and want to run for. My neighbor, Marge Otto Petrovich, who was one of the nicest neighbors anyone could ask for, passed away this April from breast cancer. My aunt and her were two women full of life who had so much to live for. They were both great mothers and wives who did not deserve to be taken away from their family and friends. The other person I will be running for with all my heart and determination is my mom, and best friend, Hope. This April she was diagnosed with breast cancer and to think that she could be taken away from me tears me apart. That is why I am going to do anything possible to keep that from happening. I am willing to train, be sore, tired, and in pain to be able to run this race and raise money for these four women. Of course it is not just for them, it is for all the women who have been affected or will be affected by breast cancer.
The mission of Breast Cancer Network of Strength pretty much says it all: this amazing organization works to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. The Illinois office works right here in my community, implementing programs and services free of charge to all those facing breast cancer. Some of these include support groups, educational programming, and public outreach, a wig & prosthesis bank for women with limited financial means, and a state-wide grassroots advocacy program that works to secure government funding of research and access to high quality health care for all.
I am asking you to help in this endeavor. As a participant of the Pink Streak team for Network Strength, I am required to raise a minimum of $850. However, my personal goal is to raise at least $5,000 for this incredible organization, and with your help, I know that I will be able to do it. So no matter how big or small the amount PLEASE donate.
Finally, the corny side of me would like to say thank you to my friend Kelly for signing up with me and my good friend Jeff who is helping me train and acting as my coach. I would also like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. And last but not least, thank you to those who have taken the time to read this page and donate!
THANK YOU!
