Lee:
This year is my 2nd year with NGS, my 2nd Marine Corps Marathon, and my first running of the Army 10-miler. I have long had motivations from both directions: running and fund-raising. Running is a statement about lifelong fitness. Fund raising is a statement about service to others. Endurance events are a statement about commitment and sacrifice.
As the son of a 1952 US Naval Academy graduate, a 1976 Naval Academy graduate myself, and a retired Marine infantry officer I have spent my life believing in the importance of service to our nation and service to others. Both the Academy and the Marines taught me the importance of life-long physical fitness. This seems like a perfect 'yin and yang' complement by doing something worthwhile for the sons and daughters of fallen service members while doing something worthwhile for myself and my family. Affiliating with No Greater Sacrifice allows me to do both. I will be with NGS Endurance Team for a long time to come. Please support this very worthy charitable organization and donate to their wonderful recipients.
Max:
I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2001, right after "9/11". Running past the pentagon, which still still smelled of the smoke of those terrible 9/11 fires, filled me with awe and pride: awe at being reminded of the sacrifices so many Americans made that day and pride to be an American. Both of my grandfathers served in WW II (one in the Army and one in the Navy), my father is an Army vet, my husband is a Marine vet, my father in law is a 30-year Navy vet, and my son-in-law is a currently serving naval officer; our family is steeped in a tradition of service to nation.
I want to do my part. I have run two Marine Corps Marathons; this year I am tackling both the Army 10-miler and the MCM 10-K. But most of all, I want to help NGS raise money for the families of fallen service members and law enforcement officers, I want my two youngest children to know the joy of helping others, and I want to set a good example for them that I will lead a healthy, fitness-oriented lifestyle. Please give generously to this worthy cause. |
