| I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2001, right after "9/11". Running past the pentagon, which still still smelled of the smoke of those terrible 9/11 fires, filled me with awe and pride: awe at being reminded of the sacrifices so many Americans made that day and pride to be an American. Both of my grandfathers served in WW II (one in the Army and one in the Navy), my father is an Army vet, my husband is a Marine vet, my father in law is a 30-year Navy vet, and my son-in-law is a currently serving naval officer; our family is steeped in a tradition of service to nation.
I want to do my part. I have run two Marine Corps Marathons; this year I am tackling both the Army 10-miler and the MCM 10-K. But most of all, I want to help NGS raise money for the families of fallen service members and law enforcement officers, I want my two youngest children to know the joy of helping others, and I want to set a good example for them that I will lead a healthy, fitness-oriented lifestyle. Please give generously to this worthy cause. |
