| Kennedy 5K Run/Walk for Mind Body &Soul |

As originators of the Kennedy 5K, the Mental Health Association of Rock River Valley (www.grouphope.org) seek to accomplish several goals.
- We raise funds to continue the mission of our service of multiple mutual-help support meetings for Depression and Bipolar Disorder. In seven years Group Hope meetings in Rockford, Belvidere, Dixon, Rochelle, and Dekalb we have had over 10,000 attendees meet together about the effects of these major mood disorders on their lives. They come free of charge and get understanding from each other. Group Hope has 10 groups in 5 cities of Northern Illinois, all of which are affiliated with the national DBSA organization that has over fifteen hundred support groups in the 50 states.(dbsalliance.org) We are serious in this effort to offer easy access to meaningful help to people struggling with dangerous and debilitating illness. The newest of our groups is near The Northern Illinois campus for the students and community people there.
Funds are used for promotional materials, educational materials and to supply emergency medications for group members.
- Our efforts go to promote other mental health agencies in Rockford
- We use the Kennedy 5K to promote cooperation among private and public providers of mental health and to encourage primary care providers to move deeper into mental health care
The Kennedy 5K Run/Walk for Mind Body and Soul is named for Margaret Kennedy, our award winning advocate for mental health issues in Winnebago County. Margaret passed away in 2006. We miss her, and honor her passion.
