Running for the River
In Memory of Tim O'Grady
Tim O'Grady (1959-2011) was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend - a man who was honest, sincere, and passionate about life. Tim loved the McKenzie River. He found deep happiness living near the river in the lush green forests - swimming, rafting, tubing, riding his motorcycle along the river and visiting the falls, even asking for his ashes to be spread in the river.

On July 4, 2012, I will be running the "Foot Traffic Flat Marathon" outside Portland, Oregon. In Tim's honor, I am gathering donations in support of McKenzie River Trust, an organization that protects critical habitats and scenic lands in the McKenzie basin. In support of the campaign, McKenzie River Trust has agreed to accept these donations as a gift in memory of Tim, and to place a tribute to Tim alongside the river that he loved so much. For more details about Tim, my fundraising, and my progress towards the marathon, check out my BLOG

We smashed the initial $1000 goal in less than a month! I know Tim would never be satisfied with doing the job until he could rest on his laurels, he would only push to do more and do it better. In that vein, I have updated the goal to $2620 - that's equivalent to $100 for every mile I run in the marathon... we can do it, for Timmy and for the river!
The McKenzie River Trust is a nonprofit land trust formed in 1989 to protect critical habitat and scenic lands. Throughout its history, the McKenzie River Trust has worked with landowners and diverse partnerships to protect, forever, over 3,300 acres of special lands in western Oregon. Not my first marathon, won't be my last - but probably the most important one for me.
