Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease are forms of inflammatory bowel disease. There are no known causes, and no known cures.
About a year and half ago, I was diagnosed with UC. I probably went through the usual stages of grief when I learned I had it. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression... acceptance. Now I'm moving on to some new stages. I'm fighting back by raising awareness of the disease... awareness, and money! You are here because of the fundraising part. As a participant of the Team Challenge, I am going to run a half marathon in Miami in January. I'll be running to raise awareness... and with each donation, you'll be sponsoring every mile my shoes carry me. (I'll probably need SOMEONE to carry me.)
Honestly, we don't know much about these ailments, and even treatment is still sort of hit and miss for many… but is that going to stop us? Every journey starts somewhere. Whether it's just a very long run, or life saving and lifestyle altering research.
