Half Marathon Training Program

Crossing the finish line to find a cure..
What is Julie up to, exactly?

I am training for the ING Miami half marathon in January 2009 through the Team Challenge program to benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. (CCFA).

I am not a runner, as many of you know. I am more of a gym rat. I've never run more than two or three miles in my life. But, through Team Challenge, I will spend a total of 16 weeks training to complete a 13.1 mile race.

13.1 miles? Um, why?

Why am I running to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America? Crohn's disease and colitis are painful diseases of the digestive tract that affect 1.4 million American adults and 150,000 children. Among that 1.4 million Americans is my husband and members of our family.

Andy likes my idea for a slogan: "I'm running, so his intestine doesn't." That seemed a little much for the headline for the webpage though.

Interesting. I've always wondered what I could do for Andy's intestines. Any suggestions?

Along the way, I will need your help to raise my fund-raising goal of $3600 by the end of December 2008. Both your financial donations and your show of support will help me tough it through to the end.

More than 83 cents of each dollar donated will go directly to research and programs designed to improve the quality of life for children and adults who suffer from Crohn's and colitis. The Foundation consistently meets the standards of organizations that monitor charities, including the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance ( and the American Institute of Philanthropy ( Of course, you can deduct your donation from your taxes too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to click that link to come here and read about my half marathon attempt. I appreciate your support!
