| The Marines and civilians of the Casualty Operations Section of HQ Marine Corps are running the Marine Corps Marathon as a team on Oct. 26, 2008. Each one of us has selected a deceased Marine in whose honor we are running. Each one of us has our own personal reasons for choosing who we chose. For me, the Marine that I am running for is PFC Dawid Pietrek, a Polish immigrant that had a loving family and a dream of serving in the Marines and then becoming a Police Officer. Unfortunately he, along with his 3 Marine brothers from 2 Bn 7th Mar, were killed on June 14, 2008 in Afghanistan(http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/dawid-pietrek.htm). All of his family lives in Poland and I was fortunate enough to be their escort and Assistance Officer while they were in the US to lay their beloved son, fiance, brother, grandson to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. A 100% of the money raised will go to Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation (http://www.mc-lef.org/Home.aspx) - an organization that takes amazing care of spouses and children of Marines and various Law Enforcement personnel who died in the line of duty. |
