ABOUT US
Each August, the annual Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational surfs for a cure to raise awareness and much needed funds for cancer research. By bringing together some of the most respected men and women in surfing history with business leaders, scientists, local politicians and national celebrities, the Longboard Luau is one of the world’s most successful surfing fundraiser and has an international reputation for celebrating the “aloha” spirit in the fight against cancer.
EVENT INFORMATION
On August 23rd, we will celebrate our 16th year of the Luau & Longboard Invitational, and on August 9th, we have an awareness event called Survivor Beach. Over the past 15 years, we have raised more than $3 million for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center. The funds raised support the mission of the Moores UCSD Cancer Center to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for those fighting cancer. As San Diego's only National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center (41 total in US), the Moores UCSD Cancer Center is committed to promoting and sustaining excellence in basic, translational and clinical research, cancer prevention, and the highest quality of clinical care.
ALOHA
We are grateful to all those in the community who have come together in the “Aloha Spirit” to surf for a cure and support the fight against cancer. More than just a friendly greeting, aloha also means kindness, unity, humility and patience. So, we ask you to join us in the aloha spirit to surf for a cure because together we are stronger than one – together we can find a cure – together we can take the giant leap to eradicating cancer.
