AN EASY WAY TO QUADRUPLE THE EFFECT OF YOUR GIFT: Over the next three years, Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, is matching all donations 50 cents to the dollar (within a limit) to SENS research, the same beneficiary that LMRF targets. If you also get your HR department to provide you with an employer matching form, then your ultimate effect is four times your own net donation. (Keep in mind that to trigger an employer match, a minimum donation is often required.)

ABOUT LMRF: Currently we help fund research into an innovative approach to cure atherosclerosis, a narrowing and hardening of the arteries that kills more Americans each year than all cancers combined. The disease manifests itself with chronic and cumulative tissue death in various organs resulting from blockage of blood flow, which becomes most seriously symptomatic in the case of the brain and heart. It is considered the most important underlying cause of strokes, heart attacks, various heart diseases including congestive heart failure, and a majority of cardiovascular disease in general.

If the approach is fruitful, it will likely be turned on age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in those over 50.

LMRF also plans to help fund research to test the benefits of ameliorating intracellular free radical damage.
