The Kancamagus Bicycle Challenge 2008 is a 63 mile bicycle ride over the Kancamagus Highway to raise funds and awareness for the plight of child soldiers in Uganda.
Each rider will raise a minimum of $350 for ChildVoice International. The ride is organized and produced by ChildVoice, a charitable nonprofit organization based in New Hampshire, which attempts to assist child soldiers and other child war victims.
The difficulty of the ride symbolizes the struggle of children in war-torn Africa and the courage of the former child-soldiers to escape that horror.
ChildVoice operates through advocacy in countries affected by armed conflict, research on the effects of war on children, and projects to assist children in war-torn countries by providing counseling, education, housing, vocational training, and assistance with reintegration into civilian society.
Funds raised in 2008 will support ChildVoice's current project in northern Uganda where 65,000 children have been abducted over the past 22 years. Work is underway to expand a pilot project for former child soldiers and formerly abducted girls. |
