| My name is Cory Willis and I am a Gunnery Sergeant stationed at Wounded Warriors Battalion-East. My life goal has always been to help others that are less fortunate than myself. With this war on terror there are many Marines and Sailors that are disabled that can not walk let alone run. Daily I am reminded how lucky I am to be where I'm at and I want to pay it forward. My goal is to raise 5000.dollars to help those in need.
On October 28 my original plan was to run the Marine Corps Marathon in our Nations Capital. I have been recieving Cortizone injections in my back and my Doctor and my age have both caught up to me so now I will take on the 26.2 mile challenge on a hand crank bike. I felt that if I could not run this event like I did in my younger days, I still wanted to say that I have completed two marathons. With this being my seccond, I'll still honor my own personnal challenge and follow my dreams.I have done alot this year and have seen multiple Marines do what they were told that they would never do again. They all adapted and over came their difficulties and changes in life and did not look back. I still have my legs and I get around still but I always put myself in someone elses chair so I can see life through their perspective on living a normal life. I could never understand fully the challenge that our amputees face but I do know that it takes alot of moral character and upper body to get yourself in motion. I think that there are so many road blocks in life but if you think that is hard, spend the day in a chair and traverse the biggest obstaclethat there is for them, life.
