GK777: Restoring HOPE. Rebuildling a NATION. Giving LIFE.
UPDATE: GK has been established in Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, and Indonesia. In the future, we hope to establish GK in Latin America and South Africa. The Philippines is the model for what GK can do for developing nations.
In 2003, I was fortunate enough to go to the Philippines, an unexpected trip that changed my life. I was introduced to Gawad Kalinga and its mission of GK777: to rid the Philippines of poverty and slums by building 700,000 homes in 7,000 clean, safe communities in 7 years. Since my return, I have been actively volunteering my time, talent and treasure towards ANCOP. I have helped at our annual GK Expos, given GK awareness presentations, and as the GK Youth NorthWest Regional Coordinator, I actively promote the work of GK to other youth. But one of my greatest accomplishments was on my 21st birthday. In lieu of gifts, I asked my friends and family to donate to ANCOP. Through their generosity, I was able to build one home and sponsor one GK Child.
And now, I have taken up an even bigger challenge: to run the Seattle Marathon.
I am running to build another home (or more!) along with other GK Heroes across the nation.
