The COL Ripley Memorial 5K Race for Wounded Marines.
After 20 fulfilling years of active service in the Armed Forces, I wanted to continue giving some significant portion of my life to those I have served with and those who continue to serve America, but were not as fortunate as I was to come home without injury. Aside from sharing the daily grind and hazards of military duty with my many 'shipmates' from all services over the last two decades, two particular events made this 5K charity a 'must do' for me... 1. the passing of my Naval Academy classmate John Kainer, a Navy SEAL and a source of inspiration on many levels to many people... and 2. the passing of COL Ripley (USMC), a certified American hero and model of courage to all Marines and Naval Academy graduates, and for whom the race is named. If you've never heard of Ripley, read about his actions at the Dong Ha bridge in Vietnam at this website... http://theanti-chomskyanredoubt.blogspot.com/2006/09/ripley-at-bridge.html... and then you'll know why he is so revered. Then look at the many heroes of today.... the thousands of men and women who have bled for our freedom in just the last 7 years. I'd still be over there with them if I could. Being retired, now... the least I can do is to be HERE for them, and perform this small act to help raise funds that will support our wounded Marines... heroes all.------------------------- Update!! Thanks to the generosity of several friends, I reached my goal in less than 24 hours!! I'm not going to raise the goal. It's not about my goal. I will simply ask that if you haven't already made a donation to a worthy cause, please consider doing so here. Thanks!!
Thank you for supporting the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund! Don't forget that you can also sign up to race in the Fuel 4 Life Race at www.semperfifund.org.
