Team Fisher House - Champions for Military Families
Fisher House is a "Home away from Home" for military families in their time of need. Our Soldiers and their families sacrifice their lives and livelyhood everyday. Many soldiers are returning from war wounded and need extended care in the hospital. Fisher House allows families to stay close to their loved ones while they are rehabilitating. The cost of this wouldn't be possible for our military families without Fisher House. I am running to honor my husband as he serves in Iraq and for the many families that are serving as well. I went to Walter Reed Hospital in 2006 and I was in awe of our brave men and woman without limbs. They were an inspiration. When I heard of how Fisher House granted stays to their families free of charge, I just knew this was a cause I had to support and run for. If my husband were wounded, there would be no way I could afford a hotel so that I could visit with him. That would be devasting, emotionally and financially. The average hospital stay for a wounded soldier is 3 months. I am doing the running of 26.2 miles 26 October in Washington, DC, so I ask that you donate all you can to help this great cause. My Goal is $500 and if 50 people donate $10 I will achieve it! Thank You so Much!

A DONATION TO THE FISHER HOUSE HONORS THOSE WHO SERVE.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. A long-term stay in a military hospital, sometimes thousands of miles from home, could mean expensive lodging and long separations from loved ones. But in recognition of the special sacrifices of severely wounded or ill service members and their families, the Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes" so that America's military families can be together during extended treatment for serious injury or lengthy physical and/or occupation therapy.

Each Fisher House creates a warm, compassionate environment where families find support and encouragement from others in similar circumstances. The houses are typically 5,000 to 16,000 square foot homes designed with eight to 21 guest suites. All are professionally decorated and beautifully furnished in the tone and style of the local region. The houses have well-stocked community kitchens, spacious dining area, and inviting living rooms complete with libraries and toys for children. Other features include in-room telephones and cable TV/VCRs, laundry facilities, housekeeping services and in-room or common-area computers with internet access. All Fisher Houses are within walking distance of the medical center, or transportation is provided. Caring staff and volunteers are available to assist guests.

Today, 38 Fisher Houses operate at 18 military bases and nine Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers throughout the nation and overseas in Germany. Since our nation has been at war, the requirements for Fisher House have changed. Many of our returning service members need intensive physical and occupational rehabilitation. Their Fisher House stays have become longer, and, as a result, more guest suites are needed. Also, because of the nature of their injuries, all new Fisher Houses are being designed to be completely handicapped accessible.

Fisher House Foundation programs are run by generous public support. Your donation will make a difference. For more information, call toll-free (888)294-8560 or click on the "home page" link at the top of this page.

The Fisher House Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organziation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, builds new houses, assists in coordination private support, and encourages public support for the homes.
