Jon Blais had the horrifying disease, ALS which destroys nerves little by little, day by day until the afflicted lose all control. It is ugly and generally fatal. This disease is kind of random and not so very common that the drug companies put a lot of effort into finding treatments for it so it's up to us -- you and me and everyone who cares to raise the money for research into the cause and treatment of this pernicious, cold killer.
My race club, Forward Motion Race Club, is participating in a national spin-a-thon whereby we will get on our bikes in stationary trainers and spin, spin, spin in honor of Jon Blais who, after his diagnoses trained for and completed the Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii. John took 16.5 hours to complete the race but I'm not so strong. I will spin for 3 hours.
Help fight the cause and possibly win some cool stuff! 1 water bottle from PowerFlex, 1 cycling hat from Eleven Gear's Republic of Anaerobia, 1 copy of Bike Monkey Magazine from the inaugural Leipheimer Gran Fondo and 1 Chico bag from the same event. The bag squishes up into a little pouch that has a little caribeaner on it (shown hanging from the bottle). NB - only 1 bag is included in this give-away.
Raffles are not legal on the internet so this is not an internet raffle. However, if you donate, I will create tickets for you to go into a hat and then I'll pull a ticket out and the name of the person on that ticket will get the stuff!
$5 = 5 tickets; $10 = 12 tickets; $20 = 25 tickets. Larger donations will go in increments appropriate to the size of the donation. You'll have to trust me because, you know, internet based raffles are a no no. |

| Thank you for volunteering to participate in the East Bay Cycle-for-ALS! We will be holding back-to-back spin classes instructed by cyclists, triathletes and special guests and we ask that each participant donate or raise $50 to sign up for a class. Gold Sponsors ($100+) will be able to qualify for a special class taught by world-class triathlete Leanda Cave and Blazeman Sponsors ($179+) will be further recognized and entered into an exclusive drawing.
So, make sure to set up your fundraising page and then point your friends and family to it. You can have them watch this video to better understand who Jon "Blazeman" Blais was and what this disease is all about: http://www.youtube.com/v/9Vrjp2P0GlE
Our goal is to surpass last year's mark of $6,500 donated to the Blazeman Foundation. |
