| Why should YOU support the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale?
The “Downtown” Rotary Club is the oldest and largest service club in Broward County. It was founded in 1922 when Fort Lauderdale only had 2000 residents. Having grown and prospered over the years, we currently have 175 members who are committed to Service Above Self.
We are committed to serving our community with college scholarships as well as local and international humanitarian grants and projects. Last year; 1) We funded 22 scholarships worth over $100,000 to students from 9 different schools here in Broward County. Since its inception our scholarship program has granted scholarships worth over $1,750,000; 2) We funded Domestic Grants and Donations, which were reviewed and approved through a formal application process, to 12 different organizations and totaled $21,040; 3) We supported 9 Local projects during the year and completed them with the sweat equity and donations of our members, family, friends, and partners of our Rotary Club. They benefited our: (a) City - Beach Clean-up, and Waterway Clean-up, (b) Elderly – 500 Elder Care Gift Baskets, (c) Disadvantaged – Thanksgiving Baskets, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Toys For Kids, Challenge Air, and Project Stable, and (d) Our Grand Bahamas Neighbors – Bahamas Book Project, and Bahamian Schools; and 4) We worked internationally leading an effort that collected money from outside partners and shipped 15,000 Life Straws to under-developed countries in Africa. In addition, we joint ventured to drill 3 water wells and provided 3 schools, working through local African Rotary clubs, with money for critically needed School supplies. All contributions to the Fort Lauderdale Rotary 1090 Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, support the programs of the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale. |
