A DONATION TO THE FISHER HOUSE HONORS THOSE WHO SERVE.
We are an Association of Combat Veterans from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces who ride motorcycles as a hobby. Our mission now is to support and defend those who have defended our country and our freedoms. Our focus is to help veteran care facilities provide a warm meal, clothing, shelter, and guidance, or simply to say “Thank You” and “Welcome Home.” The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association has chosen Fisher House Foundation as its 2008 philanthropic beneficiary because of the foundation’s dedication to military families.
Fisher House Foundation
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. A long-term stay in a military hospital, sometimes thousands of miles from home, could mean expensive lodging and long separations from loved ones. But in recognition of the special sacrifices of severely wounded or ill service members and their families, the Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes" so that America's military families can be together during extended treatment for serious injury or lengthy physical and/or occupation therapy.
Each Fisher House creates a warm, compassionate environment where families find support and encouragement from others in similar circumstances. The houses are typically 5,000 to 16,000 square foot homes designed with eight to 21 guest suites. All are professionally decorated and beautifully furnished in the tone and style of the local region. The houses have well-stocked community kitchens, spacious dining area, and inviting living rooms complete with libraries and toys for children. Other features include in-room telephones and cable TV/VCRs, laundry facilities, housekeeping services and in-room or common-area computers with internet access. All Fisher Houses are within walking distance of the medical center, or transportation is provided. Caring staff and volunteers are available to assist guests.
Today, 38 Fisher Houses operate at 18 military bases and nine Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers throughout the nation and overseas in Germany. Since our nation has been at war, the requirements for Fisher House have changed. Many of our returning service members need intensive physical and occupationsal rehabilitation. Their Fisher House stays have become longer, and, as a result, more guest suites are needed. Also, because of the nature of their injuries, all new Fisher Houses are being designed to be completely handicapped accessible.
Fisher House Foundation programs are run by generous public support. Your donation will make a difference. For more information, call toll-free (888)294-8560 or click on the "home page" link at the top of this page.
