| CF Husband Goes Bald |
|
| My name is Nathan Lawrenson, and just a few weeks ago, my wife, Tricia was diagnosed with Post-Transplant Lymphoma Disorder (PTLD).
Tricia has Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal, genetically inherited disease that primarily affects the lungs and slowly destroys the body's ability to breathe. On April 2, 2008, with (according to her doctors) just a few months to live, Tricia received a double lung transplant.
PTLD occurs in about 10% of transplant patients. Tricia's lymphoma is presenting itself in her new lungs as growths. Fortunately, it was caught very early, and her chances of surviving and living cancer-free are positive. After four treatments of a drug called Retuximab proved unsuccessful at fighting off the cancer, she is now receiving a more intensive form of chemotherapy called CHOP-R.
Along with several other side effects, Tricia is losing her hair. I decided, when Tricia was diagnosed, that I would shave my head in support of my wife. I've also decided that I'll use this opportunity to try to raise $3000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (lls.org) in 1 week (August 1 - 8, 2008)! If I can accomplish this, I'll shave my head bald, live on the internet.
I am also privileged to be doing this fundraiser in honor of my brother-in-law, Jeff Prentice, who is also currently undergoing intensive chemo to treat his Stage IV Follicular Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma lymphoma.
Thank you very much for taking the time to learn more about this fundraiser. You can read more about my wife's story, as she deals with her CF, transplant and lymphoma, all while experiencing the joy of being a new mother, at ConfessionsOfACfHusband.com.
Thank you!
