Racing to raise money for cancer research !!
Thanks for visiting my donation page; I'm the reason and subject of the Tour de Sharpe Team!

Please consider donating towards my goal and help me make a difference for cancer research!

Just a quick note... after talking with several cycling buddies and planning some training, I'm going to try and hit the century mark over the course of the 24 hours. Yep, I'm aiming at a goal of 100 Miles !!! So... do your best to encourage me with some moolah motivation and send your donation in!

Background on 'Why ride?'
My name is Gavin Sharpe and this year I celebrated birthday number 35! I have a great wife and 3 wonderful children 14, 11 & 8.

This past December I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer (undetermined origin). I am currently taking a few months break after 5 months of treatments in order to reduce the toxicity from chemotherapy.

I am not cured, nor am I in remission, BUT lately I have been thinking about how I can use my condition to help others. Also, I know many of you have been touched by cancer in one way or another….

We recently discovered the 24 hours of Booty Bike-a-thon that raises funds for Cancer research. At the moment, I can’t think of a better, more positive use of my condition than helping to raise money for cancer research!!

Neither my wife or I are hard-core bikers, however we BOTH are riding with our friends in order to show support for others with cancer and these great charity organizations working towards finding a cure for cancer!

Thanks for your support!

Goal
24 Hours of Booty 2007 is a fundraiser for national and local cancer initiatives.

Our national recipient is the Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.laf.org). The LAF believes that in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong, the LAF provides the practical information and tools people living with cancer need to live strong.

Our local recipients include: The Keep Pounding Fund (http://www.givechf.org/programs-index.cfm), which honors the late Carolina Panthers player and coach Sam Mills and former player Mark Fields. Proceeds benefit the Blumenthal Center for Cancer Research at Carolina Medical Center.
The Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas (https://www.btfcnc.org) is a local non-profit that is establishing Charlotte as the premier brain cancer research and treatment facility in the country.
