Paws With A Cause® trains Assistance Dogs nationally for people with disabilities and provides lifetime team support which encourages independence. PAWS® promotes awareness through education.
During 2005-2006 we trained 189 dogs, and we completed 221 Needs
Assessments with new potential clients. Additionally, we provided ongoing support,
education, re-certifications and supplemental training for a total of 1,033
people.
Each year PAWS continues to receive new requests for Assistance Dogs from
people with disabilities throughout the country. During 2005-2006, we received
requests for new Assistance Dog applications as follows:
1,639 – Service Dog
241 – Hearing Dog
67 – Social Support Dog
51 – Service/Guide Dog
Our efforts to reinstate
the only Service/Guide
Dog program in the
United States have
resulted in a tenfold
increase in requests for these dual purpose dogs in the last ten months of our
fiscal year. We are currently seeking funding to provide the opportunity of
increased independence to a population of individuals who otherwise would
not qualify for an Assistance Dog.
Thank you for your support... |
