| 1,600 women and 950,000 newborns die per day from complications associated with childbirth. In India alone, every year, 78,000 women die from pregnancy and childbirth and about one million neonatal deaths occur.
The WHO has also reported that the use of simple, disposable delivery kits helps reduce the risk of infection and achieve a clean, safe delivery. However, such kits are not readily available in rural areas.
The JANMA clean birth kit from AYZH is a $2 solution for this challenge. Our initial target market is Tamil Nadu, India, home to three million rural women who live in poverty and lack access to a clean birth environment.
JANMA includes quality, low-cost components that provide the mother a safe, clean, and hygienic delivery whether she delivers at home, at a primary health care center, or in a government hospital. Also, JANMA is sourced and assembled in India by rural women, creating economic opportunity in the communities we serve. We distribute JANMA through an established network of local pharmacies, clinics, and women-focused nonprofit/nongovernmental organizations. |
