| Lace up for Project Uplift |
|
| The Auburn University Student Government Association annually hosts the Fall 5K to benefit our local United Way chapter, Project Uplift. This year’s race was held on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. The Fall 5K follows a course through Auburn University’s campus, and includes many pre/post race activities. There were door prizes, food, drinks, and entertainment, as well as appearances from Aubie and various on-campus organizations. This race brought in hundreds of participants from students, Opelika residents, and various areas.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the branch of the United Way known as Project Uplift. Project Uplift is a big brother/big sister program in which many Auburn students participate. This initiative pairs college-aged students with underprivileged children of Lee County so that they may serve as friends, mentors, and tutors. This program is extremely beneficial to the children that are involved. Project Uplift promotes good behavior, strong study habits, and optimistic attitudes in these young children allowing them to live more enjoyable lives. |
