| Tell the Story |
|
| 5,000 black soldiers fought for the Continental Army in the American Revolution. Over 209,000 men of color fought for freedom in the Civil War. Our group portrays the historic 6th Regiment US Colored Infantry in the Civil War, and the 1st Rhode Island Regiment in the American Revolution.
It includes cadets from age 13-15. At reenactments, cadets participate as runners for field officers, hospital orderlies, stretcher bearers, musicians, and other support roles. They also participate in parades, commemorations, and various ceremonies and living history venues. We also send cadets to the Trenton Old Barracks' summer camp where they learn about colonial life, and the American Revolution. Interested cadets are sponsored for membership in the Old Barracks Fife and Drums to learn to play period military music. Their tuition is also paid to attend Musicians Camp. The regiment provides cadets with uniforms (Civil War), camp equipment, and instruments. Camp tuition is $250 per camper, period drums start at $300, and Civil War uniforms $300.
Help us tell the story of true freedom fighters, and continue to involve youth in the learning about this proud heritage. We are a 501 (c)(3), nonprofit organization. |
