Bob Stidwell's Cycle for a Cure
Power To Make The Difference
A self-described ‘bicycle touring nut,’ Tacoma, WA resident Bob Stidwell has logged thousands of miles throughout the western United States and Canada since 1953. When his beloved wife Patricia was stricken with multiple myeloma in 2007, Bob put his bike and helmet in the garage for four years so he could care for her at home. As Patricia’s illness progressed, he often dreamed of doing something meaningful to honor his wife. In 2011, when Patricia lost her battle with myeloma, Bob hatched a plan that would combine his lifetime love of cycling with his desire to raise awareness of the disease that took his wife's life.

Bob is a retired classroom teacher with 32 years of service in the Tacoma School District. Bob also retired from his position at Albertsons Stores where he worked for 20 years. He began to fulfill his dream beginning in the spring of 2012 when he made dozens of bike rides to various Albertsons stores located in western Washington State. At each store, Bob set up an information/awareness site and sought donations for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Since that time, Bob has raised nearly $20,000. Beginning this spring, Bob plans to continue his mission by visiting Albertsons Stores throughout the City of Seattle.

Now at 82 years of age, Bob is fortunate to be in good health. He is able and motivated to continue his mission of awareness and raising funds for the MMRF. He wants to help fund a cure for this terrible disease.

Although multiple myeloma has no known cure, exciting progress is being made. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), founded in 1998, has raised more than $240 million to fund research that is extending patients' lives. The work of the MMRF has resulted in FDA approval of six new drugs for multiple myeloma in less then a decade - a track record unparalleled in the world of oncology. And there are now 21 additional treatments in various phases of development. These drugs have helped double the life expectancy of myeloma patients, and their work won't stop until they find a cure.

As exceptional stewards of its donors’ investments, the MMRF consistently surpasses its peers in fiscal responsibility with 90% of its total budget going directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is recognized in the top 1% of all charities reviewed by evaluators like Charity Navigator.

Please support Bob’s participation in the MMRF Endurance Events Program benefiting the MMRF! Your donation can help make the difference! Bob has made a commitment to raise at least $2000 this year. He needs your help to get there. Please help as much you can. It all adds up!

Thank You,

Bob Stidwell
