Seven Races for Multiple Myeloma
We’re one week away from race #3 at Big Sur, training has stepped up and I’m counting days... Thank you for being part of my team and supporting me!

Our family has suffered enough. I remember the pain that our family suffered when we lost Joe senior to multiple myeloma in November 2007 after a long and painful fight. Now, Betty Jones and Roberto De La Cruz have been diagnosed. I know a little about disease and health and how to cure people, but when I look at my family I feel like I can do nothing to help them--and this is actually what I do for a living.

For years, running has helped me cope with life in many ways; right now I find that it's giving me meaning and direction as I battle the knowledge that people dear to us are suffering and I feel as though I can't do anything about it. Running clears my mind and makes me realize that God is still in control and will safeguard Betty and Dr. De La Cruz while they fight multiple myeloma today. Then I realize that I'm running for Joe, Jon, Eleanor, Micah, Maggie, Coleton and Jackson, too.

I'm running seven races in the next year; each race gives me sanity to conquer the unknown of diseases that I have no control over. I run for Parkinson's, Epilepsy, cancer, poverty... but I'm raising money for myeloma because I believe in MMRF. Right now I feel we have the power to prevent myeloma; we have had enough people in our family who have been diagnosed and I need to do what I can to make sure to prevent another diagnosis of myeloma.

Join me in fighting for the Strock, Jones and Pali family.

I am participating in the Big Sur Marathon on April 29, 2012 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) PowerTeam. The other races I am running are The San Fransciso Marathon, San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon, Big Sur Half Marathon, California International Marathon, the Napa Valley Marathon and the Boston Marathon. Each race brings us closer to treatment options for Betty and Dr. De La Cruz, each races brings us closer to a cure for our family.

Here's more information about myeloma:

Multiple myeloma is an incurable blood cancer. Although progress has been made in treating multiple myeloma, the five-year relative survival rate remains one of the lowest of all cancers.

The mission of the MMRF is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure.

Since its inception in 1998, the MMRF has raised more than $190 million, making it the world's leading private funder of myeloma research to deliver new treatments to patients faster. The work of the MMRF contributed to the FDA approval of four drugs for multiple myeloma in just four years - a track record unparalleled in oncology. Due to their success in myeloma, these same drugs are now being explored as potential treatments for more than 30 other cancers.

As exceptional stewards of its donors’ investments, the MMRF consistently surpasses its peers in fiscal responsibility and an outstanding 90% of total budget go directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is consistently recognized in the top 1% of all charities reviewed by evaluators like Charity Navigator

Led by Founder and CEO Kathy Giusti, a multiple myeloma patient and Harvard MBA, the MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world, well known for its innovative and results-oriented business model approach to funding cancer research.

Please support my participation in these races benefiting the MMRF! Your donation can help make the difference. I have made a commitment to raise at least $7000, a thousand dollars for each race. I will get there. Please join me.

Thank You,

Trish
