IT'S CLIMB TIME BABY!
Our team's 5th year climbing the Tower,
And this is a very special year for us. Not only does the climb fall on Frankie's Birthday (March 16th), but the Leukemia Society has named Frankie as the event's official Honoree! We are so excited, and we won't settle for anything but 1st place this year: Frankie's year to shine.
Our team motto this year: "GO BIG,OR GO HOME"
This event is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s most challenging event .We will be climbing the stairs at the Columbia Tower in downtown Seattle, the state’s tallest Sky scraper. The 69-flight course includes 1,311 steps, 19 steps per flight and 788 feet of vertical elevation. Sound crazy? How about if you knew most of us were out of shape & middle aged...How do we do it? The real question is WHY? an estimated 712,145 Americans are fighting a blood cancer as you read this. Leukemia causes more deaths in children 0-14 yrs. than any other disease out there. Every 5 minutes a child is diagnosed with Leukemia. Every 10 minutes another child is expected to die from it. This represents 151 kids a day, or 6 kids an hour. We don't have to tell you that too many, so we CLIMB FOR THE KIDS ! Frankie Fans was first started by Dylan when he was 13 yrs. old in honor of his little brother Frankie. Sadly,Baby Frankie died of Leukemia just after his 1st birthday. He was brave thru his battle with cancer, and always quick to smile no matter how sick or weak he became. That's a lesson we will take with us thru life. Our last promise to Frankie is that we would NEVER give up, and NEVER EVER forget. To this day we have kept good on that promise. Our team has grown from 4 climbers to 100, and we plan on breaking all standing records this year. We are proud to say every member of our team made it to the top of the Tower last year, and it is our team rule to leave no one behind. Amazingly we also took 2nd place in fundraising with over $20,000! This year we're out for 1st place all or nothing! This year our team shirts will have frankie's picture on it with our team logo : "REMEMBER THE REASON" and each team memeber will have ribbons pinned to their shirts in honor of the people we are climbing for. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer, a friend, co-worker, nieghbor or even family memeber.
