Prerequisites: Metals I & II In this rings workshop, students will have the opportunity to discover how easy it is to work with gold bezel. We will construct a sterling ring band of the student’s choice, and bezel a cabochon in 22Kt. gold bezel onto a sterling platform. This class is specifically designed for those students ready to try their hand at fine karat gold with the instructor present to guide in this process. 22Kt gold is the instructor’s choice for a few reasons: This bezel is hard enough to secure the stone in place, but soft enough to push over the stone in the setting process-it moves like fine silver bezel. 14Kt and 18Kt are much harder and springier, and are difficult to work with due to their rigidity. Additionally, 22Kt bezel is a luscious gold color, and is a great frame for those cabochons you may have that are semi precious or precious. Although 22Kt bezel is more expensive, it is worth it for its rich beauty and ease of setting.
