What's Included

Prerequisites: Metals I & II In this 8 hour workshop instructor Darlene Armstrong will introduce students to another earring style that is both popular and easy to learn. These new techniques can be combined with other earring building methods to produce many other designs of both earrings and pendants. This is the 4th Earring Workshop in the series of 4, not counting the earring that was made in Metals I. The skills learned and practiced in this workshop will make it possible for students to have additional techniques to ensure success and provide fresh opportunities for the student to create many other earring designs as a result. This is the most technical of all the earring workshops and students will be challenged in a very positive way to accomplish this enchanting design and be able to feel good about the process. Techniques in this class are (but not limited to) cutting a specific size of metal strip to be used in the making the spiral earring element, effectively soldering this spiral to the base plate with very little solder-using the underneath method. Soldering the faceted tube set onto another piece of copper tubing & having it line up perfectly so it can then be soldered into the spiral. Students will be setting 2 faceted stones, practicing modern finishing techniques using machinery, using patina, soldering ear wires onto the backside without moving anything on the front side, and the easiest way to build a piece by doing it in the correct order . Students will learn more about solder set up and solder several more things with different configurations than in Metals I or Earring I,II & III. This class not only introduces the student to a particular earring style, but gives students opportunity to practice previously learned skills while adding new ones. The is the best way for a student to learn and grow in the ability to absorb and retain knowledge by routine persistent PRACTICING-getting better at each skill as a result.
