Cloyd Duff was recognized as one of the finest timpanists of the 20th century, known the world over for his beautiful, singing sound and his flawless musicianship. Since 1982 the Duff Timpani Masterclass has attracted timpanists from across the country and around the world. Students and teachers, amateurs and professionals alike, attend this annual event to learn about the Duff school of playing: a unique approach to the timpani encompassing every aspect of the instrument, from the fundamentals of technique to the most advanced orchestral repertoire.Under the directorship of Cloyd Duff's longtime assistant Jim Atwood, the Duff Timpani Masterclass has been expanded to include sessions on instrument maintenance, stick making, calf head tucking, changing and clearing heads, and a mock audition program. Joining Jim once again this summer is the renowned performer and teacher, Tom Freer of the Cleveland Orchestra. Space is limited to 25 full participants; once those spaces have been filled, additional applicants will be registered as auditors for a reduced fee.This activity is for participants who would like to attend the workshop as a Full Participant and play in master classes. To attend as an Auditor and observe, please register for Duff Timpani Masterclass 2013 - Auditor ON-CAMPUS HOUSING: On-campus housing is available at a rate of $210 for 6 nights (Check in June 9, Check out June 15). Housing enrollments close on May 10th.PARKING PASS: Parking availability on the UMKC campus is limited. If you will be bringing a car to campus each day, we recommend puchasing a parking parking pass. Weekly passes are available for $20, and will allow participants to park in any UMKC Student Lot during the week of Composition Workshop. To reserve your pass, please indicate on this form that you would like a parking pass. Parking permits may be reserved in advance until May 10th. After this date, parking permits may be purchased by visiting the UMKC Parking office.INTERNET ACCESS - UMKC is equipped with free wireless internet, which can be accessed in all buildings EXCEPT for residential facilities.
