Registration Closing Date
Friday, October 25, 2013
The Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute (DHWI) Healthy Harvest Fun Walk & 5K Run raises funds and awareness for the programs of the DHWI, a collaboration between Baylor Health Care System and the City of Dallas, to provide access to quality health care and disease prevention services to Southern Dallas. Residents in surrounding ZIP codes are three-times more likely to die from diabetes compared to those living in Dallas. Prior to the DHWI's opening, the area lacked services that are essential to living healthy, such as access to doctors' offices or hospitals, healthy food options and grocery stores, exercise programs, and affordable transportation. The mission of the DHWI is to improve the care of people with diabetes by creating a new care model focused on health care, education and research. It is Southern Dallas' first and only facility addressing health and wellness needs related to diabetes. Staffed by a team including a physician, nurses, care coordinators and diabetes education specialists, the DHWI offers a simple yet innovative approach to combating diabetes and has woven itself into the culture of this comunity to impact societal change. Please join us to walk or run in 2013 to continue the DHWI's efforts to serve the community in Southern Dallas!
