Explore the techniques to create a variety of functional objects and sculptural forms in clay. Learn coil and slab construction methods using various tools and techniques. Also learn how to throw on the potters wheel, starting with centering a lump of raw clay on the wheel and pulling a basic pot. All students will study the basic forms, as well as learn how to alter their vessels using hand-building methods. Throughout the course we will work to define our individual priorities as makers and master the techniques necessary to see our visions become successful. We will also consider surface development of textures, slips, and glazes, slip trailing, brushwork, wax resist and more. The class is a good introduction for beginners and also welcomes intermediate and advanced students with opportunities for technical development and artistic growth. Individual attention from instructors, interaction with other students, and hands-on demonstrations provide an exciting environment for clay artists, and for students of all levels.Additional fee for supplies: Basic tool kits are available for $20, clay is $17-$22 for 25 lbs.
