This camp is an advanced course that will give campers hands-on software development experience, within the context of Minecraft, and teach them to push the boundaries of both their creative and technical ability. The curriculum will introduce students to the project planning and implementation process as they work collaboratively on the design of a virtual world and user experience. They will utilize advanced applications of Redstone, ComputerCraft, and mod development in Java, as necessary. Some of the intellectual skills students can expect to attain include logical creativity, project management, and cooperative design. Above all, they will begin to acquire an intelligent grasp of how computer code is developed into a functional software product. This course is only for advanced campers who have completed all the Minecraft U sequences and have shown particular aptitude with the material and concepts therein, including clock circuits, logic gates, and Java. While most of the course will be conducted in the Hockaday computer lab, we strongly encourage students to bring their own laptop (or memory stick), because they will need to do some additional work at home. Students who cannot attend the full two-week session, can enroll and attend the session virtually, if given permission by the Camp Director.
