“CHALLENGE THE BEAR” BIKE RIDE: - NEW THIS YEAR! July 6th. 1ST Annual Bike Rides: All rides will begin and end at Cub Lake inside Bear Valley Springs, a private gate-guarded community (25,000 acres), located 15 minutes outside Tehachapi, CA. Cyclists will be privileged to ride the virgin roads, where few cyclists have ever been. Proceeds benefit Bear Valley Police Department Volunteers in Police Service. Nestled in the Tehachapi Mountains of California, this is to be considered one of our Countries unexplored road bike rides. Valley Springs' Elevation ranges from 4,118 feet to 6,934 feet with breathtaking scenery, paved roads, three challenging climbs, exemplifying cycling at its best in Central California. Some have said “Amazing rides for the beginner to the extremist might be rated as the top rides in the country”. fee must be in by June 21st which includes T-shirts and 3 day entry pass.

MAILED PACKETS

Riders who register by JUNE 21 will have their packet and jersey mailed to them or you can pick up The Bear Valley Police Department. You will need an entry pass to enter in the community of Bear Valley Springs.

JERSEY'S

Jersey’s can be ordered online and will be mailed with preregistration packets. If your Jersey does not fit, you can, subject to availability, exchange it at the event at the merchandise booth. Please note that availability will be limited and so we can’t guarantee that all sizes will be available. Jersey orders placed before June 1st will be guaranteed for ride day availability

CANCELLATION POLICY

Entry fees are nonrefundable and entries are nontransferable.

WEATHER

Expect temperatures to be in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s at the start with normal daytime highs in the upper 80’s to mid 90’s. Mountain weather is highly variable so be prepared for afternoon rain.

SUPPORT VEHICLE

For the safety of all riders, private support vehicles are NOT allowed on the course. Sag vehicles will be provided.

PARKING

Parking is available inside the “Bear Valley Springs “community; areas will be marked on event day.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Minors (<18) must be accompanied by an adult while on the ride, and at all times during the event.

NOT A CLOSED COURSE

THE BIKE RIDE IS NOT A CLOSED COURSE. YOU WILL BE SHARING THE ROAD WITH CARS - PLEASE RIDE SAFELY.

CAUTION

These are mountain courses. Even though they are on paved roads, they contain a lot of climbing. They are extreme and challenging. There will be options available to make the courses easier for the less than hardcore cyclist. The easier options will still contain climbs. Please review the ride maps on www.legacycentury.com before registering.

EVENT DAY PACKET PICK-UP AND LATE REGISTRATION

Packet pick-up for registered riders and late registration is after 5:00AM on July 06, 2013 at BVPD located at “ Look for signs as you approach the gate entrance” You must register in order to receive a gate pass to enter the “Bear Valley Springs’ community. No pass = No Access.

SAFETY

Helmets are mandatory. Remember this is not a race. Please obey all traffic laws. Come to a complete stop at stop signs and red traffic signals. Ride single file and only pass other riders on their left, and announce your intent to pass. Waivers must be signed to ride.

PROCEEDS

ALL proceeds benefit the Bear Valley Police Departments Volunteers in Police Services.

This is a ride RAIN or SHINE event. There are no refunds. There are no ATM's within miles of the event. Please bring cash for on-site purchases. Additionally, CREDIT CARD payments will ONLY be accepted on-line through www.active.com. ONLY Cash or Check will be accepted on the day of the event. Registrations may not be transferred or resold.
